Marriage License Information

For weddings on the Woodwind I, Safari Rose or Tahoe couples must bring a California marriage license with them. If you are California residents you may obtain a license at your own county administration offices or here at Lake Tahoe once you arrive. For weddings on the Woodwind II you may bring either a California or Nevada license. See information below for both states.

California

For ceremonies taking place in California, the Captain or a minister will be needed to perform the wedding ceremony and sign your marriage license. This applies to all sites located within California, including Emerald Bay. A California marriage license may be obtained at the El Dorado Clerk-Recorder's Office:

Application Fee: $50.00 (Cash, Check or Travelers Check)

Identification:  Valid Driver's License, Passport, or State Identification Card

Waiting Period:  None

Blood Test:  None

Expiration Date: 90 days

Age Requirements:  18 years of age or older

California Confidential Record of Marriage:  $45.00 (for couples who have been living together, valid only in the issuing county, requires no witnesses, is not a matter of public record, only the bride or groom can obtain a certified copy).

Additional Information:  If the bride or groom has been divorced within the last 90 days, a Final Decree of Divorce must be presented in order to obtain the license.


Nevada

In the state of Nevada, a minister will be needed to perform the wedding ceremony and sign your marriage license. A Nevada marriage license can be obtained seven days a week at the Douglas County Lake Tahoe Administration Building:

Hours: 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM Sundays and holidays. (Closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day)

Application Fee: $55.00 payable in cash, by cashier's check, money order, Visa or MasterCard.

Personal checks are not accepted. Brides, you may want to consider how many certified copies will be necessary to document your marriage and possible name changes to various agencies. Certified copies are $10 each. Planning ahead will save you time!

Blood Test:  None

Expiration Date: One Year

Age Requirements:  18 years of age or older (proof of age required)
